motion pictures

So my tendinitis is suddenly redic.  Remember back in the day when it nearly ended my playing career?  Well, apparently practicing violin AND carting around a 12lb baby AND wrestling the massive preschooler are all very bad for my lame tendons.  Can't type much or I'll injure the other hand, so here's my latest hobby - video apps on my phone and cutting the sleeves off men's tees (the shoulders are too broad) and sewing a more decent sized sleeve on farther up.  This is a shirt the husband won't wear in public, so it's mine now, baby!

And here's 6 seconds of me cleaning the living room.  Woo!

girl power

I am fully aware that I'm being a positively lame blogger lately.  Not having regular access to a computer of my own has that effect - though I kind of like it that way.

AND TOTALLY RANDOM - but there's a bird of prey that lives in my neighborhood and I hear it doing that screechy scream they do and I keep thinking someone is watching the Colbert Report because it sounds just like the screech ot the beginning of the show.  Seriously, for a while I was like, "Husband sure is watching a lot of Colbert Report lately" and then he wasn't home, and I was all "ooohhhh."  I mention this because one is screeching right now and I'm thinking what I normally do when something interesting happens - "Hey, I should blog this!"  And for once I'm actually by a computer so I thought I'd mention that.  You're welcome.

Anywho, Danielle coming to play for a week was absolute heaven.  Not only did I get to connect with a bestie I hadn't seen in 4 years though it felt like just a week had passed- but she is a seriously fabulous aunt.  Every night WonderGirl would beg her to crawl into bed with her and snuggle, and she totally did it.  She let the Dude headbutt her over and over and kept smiling and exclaiming on how hilarious he is, even while dealing with a meltdown at Walmart.  I really don't like other people's children, but spending a week with her made me determined to try to see the best in them, if only so someday I can love all over her kids like a pro.  I guess that's why she's such an amazing teacher - unconditional love for children.  I have exactly 1% of that going on )with other people's kids - my own have some weird tractor beam all over my brain).  I need to work on that.

And in the middle of that Walmart freak show the Dude was putting on, she managed to snag this dress off the clearance rack that I would have never given a second look to, but she saw potential - a cardigan here, a lace underskirt there and voila!

Also, she let me do a photoshoot with her in case she needed more professional shots, and we managed to throw this one in there:

Because of course.  If I have to live next to a herd of cows, I'd better get some awesome pictures out of it.

I saw this quote somewhere and it sounded just perfect to me:

Am I the only one who has Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) memorized?  The original essay came out the year I graduated high school and it has lodged itself in my grey matter.  There's a part that kept screaming at me all week:

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Mommy friends are invaluable, but man oh man, was it fun to be with someone who knew how to have the kind of fun only two overly dramatic Mormon college girls in Texas can stir up. We ran into a Target for 20 minutes and managed to find the only pants that would fit me, then almost drove into a lake.  And then Thing 3 pooped a lot and Dani got to take care of it.  Then 3 days later we saw a man trying on robes in the women's intimates section at Kohls and he got all embarrassed and told us it was for a costume.  I totally believe him, by-the-by.

So now that we're caught up on that, we can get back to our regularly scheduled programming of whatever the heck it is that usually goes around here.

Also because I posted the crazy pics of her, I should at least post one of the super hawt ones:

Oh, and this:

Those cows really liked her.  Me too.

My beastie Danielle is visiting me this week and it is so awesome I can't even stand it. Seriously, I may sabotage her car so she'll be my friend slave foreverrrrrrrr.

PS I read all your comments in my talk - they were so insightful and wonderful! Thank you!!!

audience participation

I learned a valuable lesson about being the bishop's wife this week: when he's trying to decide on topics to assign for sacrament meeting and he asks you your opinion, don't give him a really good answer because then he'll have YOU speak in sacrament meeting.

I get to speak on Mother's Day.  Woo.

I'm steering clear of the sappy eulogizing of my own mother or over-idealizing motherhood in general and am trying to focus solely on gender roles and how they have a divine origin and stuff.  But I can't just google "What are men supposed to do and women supposed to do" because that brings up a whole lot of interesting opinions.  Trust me.

So do YOU have an opinion on the subject?  I know what the role of a mother and father, but what about just as men and women?  The stereotypes are funny and all that, but I'm trying to get down to the niiity griiiity.  (Nacho Libre reference.  Of course.)  What is our job here on earth as a woman or man?

Go on.  Get all up in here with yo' opinions and junk.

life this week in instagram

As always, explanations are on my instagram page @onebrickshyish. I'm looking at you, Jane.

HEAR YE. I need to document the fact that I ran 3 miles and didn't feel like death.  So just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I did...
