I wrote a post that is featured on ww.icanteachmychild.com today.  WonderGirl made a cameo, of course.  You can look at it if you like.  No pressure.  No need to fawn all over my greatness or anything.  It’s cool.

mamaguru: Attn: Dads: How to plan the PEFECT Mother's Day

mamaguru: Attn: Dads: How to plan the PEFECT Mother's Day

mamaguru:

Please reblog, print and distribute this post widely in the interest of making all mamas happy next Sunday.

Let’s face it: mamas are the holiday planners in most families. We shop, we bake, we plan, we organize, we record, we everything. The rest of the family bumbles around and…

Ahem. I was asked for Mother’s Day ideas yesterday and I drew a blank. This list sounds about right.

WONDER-TONIC: 4chan Declares War On Snow

WONDER-TONIC: 4chan Declares War On Snow

(via wondertonic)

A loosely-organized group of internet activists known as Anonymous announced on Sunday that it was declaring war on the meteorologic phenomenon known as snow. The hacker group, born out of the influential internet messageboard 4chan and responsible for the recent attacks against MasterCard and… read more

I’m not down with crazy hacking, but this actually makes sense.   WE CANNOT LET THE SNOW WIN.

Obvious Tips For Not-Very-Good Homemakers

Obvious Tips For Not-Very-Good Homemakers

Two fancy “foreign” things you should be aware of and buy are Nutella and Babybel cheese. A jar of Nutella is breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Buy Babybel to help defray the cost of toys—My son has been playing with red Babybel wax outerskins for weeks. It’s like modeling clay. Gross? Yes well, some of us can’t afford salt dough.

I’m going to print these posts out and stick them in my scriptures for future reference,

Dangerous Liaisons

Dangerous Liaisons

“According to Fowler’s study, if you have a divorced friend, the chance that you will get divorced as well increases by 147 percent.”  Just sharing this for sheer “huh” factor.  My in-laws both come from divorced families and are going on 30+ years so anyone can beat the odds.  I don’t think any of my friends will give me “the divorce.”  I’m actually much more likely to trick my friends into getting pregnant  ;)  (click on above link for article)

On the way home from the airport, I caught this radio program on the NPR Ideas Network.  It’s regular folks telling a story, like open mic for storytellers.  We all have at least one story we tell at parties that always score big.  I know Lola and my husband have some seriously awesome ones.  The stories on the program were so good, so raw, I was laughing and bawling all at the same time.  I wonder what story of mine I could tell?  The whole giving birth in Brasil thing?  The time my car broke down in the desert in New Mexico and I got in a car with a random family to drive me to Arizona?  You can call a story idea in, and then people vote on the one they like, and you could get flown to NYC to tell your story at a storyslam.

I have a new bucket list item, people.

What story would you tell?  What story of mine is not terribly boring??

It might make my dad mad that I’ve posted this (dunno about bandwidth and stuff), but it’s too adorable not to.  It’s a sketchy video of Dallin and I playing violin at his reception (he’s the groom but when your bride requests you play a few numbers, you do it!).  We’re playing a wee bit of The Star of the County Down/If You Could Hie To Kolob (same melody) and then my dad put the camera onto the bride of the sweetest little bit of heaven you could ask for.  That’s my little girl she’s got there - and though the beautiful bride must have been exhausted, she spent a good long while playing with, listening to and snuggling my WonderGirl.

Can I pick ‘em or what?! (which is why I call myself the puppetmaster, alluding to the fact that I am still taking credit for matching them up.  FYI.  Dang I’m awesome.)

The video has to download, it’s only 58 seconds so it should only take a moment.  So worth it.

*EDIT*  Here’s a less sketchy vid that doesn’t need to download  and besides showing that my brother got the sweetest wife ever, it’s a endorsement for Suzuki violin.  Oh, sweet minuets and diversionary tactics…

'huge space storm' will cause devastation in 2013

'huge space storm' will cause devastation in 2013

“It will disrupt communication devices such as satellites and car navigations, air travel, the banking system, our computers, everything that is electronic. It will cause major problems for the world. Large areas will be without electricity power and to repair that damage will be hard as that takes time.” (via guy)

think on this.: How Vacations Affect Your Happiness - Well Blog - NYTimes.com

think on this.: How Vacations Affect Your Happiness - Well Blog - NYTimes.com

The largest boost in happiness comes from the simple act of planning a vacation. In the study, the effect of vacation anticipation boosted happiness for eight weeks. After the vacation, happiness quickly dropped back to baseline levels for most people. How much stress or relaxation a traveler experienced on the trip appeared to influence post-vacation happiness.

There was no post-trip happiness benefit for travelers who said the vacation was “neutral” or stressful.” Surprisingly, even those travelers who described the trip as “relaxing” showed no additional jump in happiness after the trip. “They were no happier than people who had not been on holiday,” said the lead author, Jeroen Nawijn, tourism research lecturer at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

The only vacationers who experienced an increase in happiness after the trip were those who reported feeling “very relaxed” on their vacation. Among those people, the vacation happiness effect lasted for just two weeks after the trip before returning to baseline levels.

I need something to look forward to.  Like GETTING OUT OF HERE.

Radio Host Delilah Pulls Kids from Crosspoint Academy, Claiming School Teaches Veiled Mormonism

Radio Host Delilah Pulls Kids from Crosspoint Academy, Claiming School Teaches Veiled Mormonism

I’m so offended by this story I can’t even see straight.  How on earth can people still have the prejudice to say we are not Christians?!  Is a philosophy only acceptable if it is by a Baptist, a Methodist, a Lutheran - but even though we share the same strong core belief in Christ, heck, we share the same scripture, the Bible! - but if someone writes a successful book and happens to be Mormon, it automatically is propaganda instead of a simply a book a good person wrote???

Yo Delilah:  I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Yes, that’s a Mormon.  I have read and learned from great thinkers of all religions - I DON’T DISCRIMINATE.  My daughter attends a daycare at a Lutheran church and I love and respect their commitment to Christ, same as me.  They teach my daughter Lutheran hymns, she teaches them ours.  We believe in Jesus Christ.  My religion is not a dirty word

I don’t care what religion you are, or aren’t.  I don’t care if you believe in Christ or not, that’s your call.  That’s why we’re here, to figure it all out.  Just do your thing, find your path.  Don’t stop to try and tear others down along the way.  Whoever you think is out there - that’s not part of His plan.  I promise you.

AT&T may have to limit iPhone users

AT&T may have to limit iPhone users

Just for you, ooliquidnightoo.  I’m so mad I could freak.  Well, the snow isn’t helping, but since I live in the Middle Of Nowhere, we’re not even ALLOWED to use our data plans (charging us up the ying yang if we do).  Stupid AT&T!!  If only I wasn’t so completely and utterly in love with this magical, best friend of a phone.  Jerks.  I’m like an iPhone junkie.

HEAR YE. I need to document the fact that I ran 3 miles and didn't feel like death.  So just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I did...
